Paul Porter of RapRehab.com joined us today to add some context and history to the comments made recently by legendary rapper Scarface that control of hip-hop is “so… White and so… Jewish.” Paul Porter has served as a Program Director and talent for BET; consulted for AOL Music, the NBA and Sound Exchange; and negotiated licensing deals with and has been featured on many media outlets most are familiar with and who need no further mention here. Porter is Regarded as a music rights activist, is also on the Advisory Board of the Parents Television Council and has been called to testify before Congress.*

*Here is the referenced LA Times article by Joel Stein, “How Jewish is Hollywood?

**And here is Scarface’s follow up and response to criticism that he is “anti-Semitic.”

  1. “We will continue to run in place selling dope to ourselves (figuratively and literally at times) if we don’t get the game.”

20 years of gangsta rap seems to me like a prolonged display of apathy or (more conspiratorially) suicide by design.

  2. We cannot see the forrest for the tree’s unfortunately and in this aforementioned reality, we don’t connect the dots as to the extension of depiction and control of image, control of the economics of the art. Scarface did not say anything that isn’t the truth. We will continue to run in place selling dope to ourselves (figuratively and literally at times) if we don’t get the game.

“Gangsta rap has been popular for 20 years…” Wow.
