For this special extended reunion special of imixwhatilike! we had the full crew and then some to pay a belated and happy birthday tribute to the late Dr. Frances Cress-Welsing. In addition to the regulars (Drs. Ball, Burroughs and Hate, plus Baba Chad, Mark Bolden and Esi Ramu) we had Ms. Lorne Cress Love, both as live guest and via an early 1970 WPFW 89.3 FM (Washington, DC) host interviewing her sister Dr. Cress-Welsing. In that portion of our show Love shared little-known aspects of their family’s history – including a fascinating connection to Ida B. Wells. We also were joined by Dr. T. Owens Moore who is a trained as a Physiological Psychologist and author of several books related in some ways to the work of Dr. Cress-Welsing including (but not limited to): The Science of Melanin: Dispelling the Myths, The Science of Melanin (The Second Edition), Dark Matters-Dark Secrets, Why Darkness Matters: The Power of Melanin in the Brain, Clue Seeker: A Journey Back Through Time to Search for an Identity. And if that weren’t enough we had all this plus some music, clips from and discussion of Cress-Welsing’s relationship to Hollywood and popular media, a little response and engagement with her critics and more!
